We all know how powerful YouTube can be as a marketing tool. However, we are often asked a range of questions by clients –
  • How can we really boost sales with YouTube?
  • Isn’t it expensive to make a good video?
  • Surely YouTube is really for teenagers and the massive global brands. How can it help my small business?
Do these questions sound familiar to you? We thought we would do a short blog article that tackles them. We’d like to encourage you all to use YouTube as part of your content strategy. It does not need to break the bank and it can make a difference to your business, whatever its size. Continue reading
Every time someone visits your website, there is the opportunity for them to become a customer, an influencer, a brand advocate, and a natural promotional tool. Are you providing the visitors to your website with these opportunities? One way to accomplish this is to offer visitors the chance to register using a social media sign-up. No doubt you will have seen many of the larger sites offering Facebook and Twitter sign-ups, but it is also an option which can be extremely fruitful for small to medium enterprises. In fact, many small businesses have grown rapidly because they have made themselves more accessible to larger numbers via social media sign-ups. Let’s look at the advantages of this form of customer registration. Continue reading
Recently there has been more news coverage about companies who have been found to have ‘fake’ followers on their social media accounts. It seems that despite the dangers of being discovered and tarnished as cheats, brands still believe that high numbers of followers, even if they are fake, are better than just a few real connections. Don’t believe it! Paying for fake followers can seriously harm the health of your brand. And more importantly, the Google bots will spot it. Fake likes on Facebook, Twitter and other ways to fake it, do not generate natural traffic. And since the arrival of Google Penguin, it is natural traffic that the bots are attracted to. Fakes will not help build a trusted relationship with your customers either. Although the site of many thousands of followers on a page may attract more followers initially, once they realise there is no real activity going on, and that all these ‘people’ come from the same geographic location, they will be much less impressed. In fact, a recent survey indicated that most customers severed ties completely with brands they found to be cheating or behaving in a dishonest way online. Continue reading
The Festive season is upon us so it’s time for another round of Top 10/20/50/100 breakdowns of the year. Yahoo has published a range of top ten charts this year, including top searches, top news items, top male and female celebrities and so on. Many of them are just for fun, but some of them can contain useful information, especially for content creators and SEO professionals. While not all of us are particularly interested in the latest developments from the Bieber/Cyrus universe, there is value in keeping an eye on the top trending topics and searches. This is especially true if you are a content creator, a website owner, or involved in SEO in any way – which is most of us these days. It matters, and this is why: We’re not sure if this is the official term for it, but we believe it’s like ‘surfing on the crest of a wave’. Here’s an example – Continue reading
As you may know, US users were invited to sign up for a Google Wallet debit card at the end of last month. Social media announced that the first of the cards have started to arrive with their new owners. Did you sign up for one? For US users, the wait is over and they can try out their new cards. So we wanted to recap the features of the card, and ask a simple question: Is Google Wallet any different to any other debit card? When you receive your card, you simply sign the back and activate it as instructed. The process is simple, straightforward and it is really, just like any other debit card. However, Google Wallet’s arrival presents potential new opportunities for online businesses. Continue reading

Have you been getting to know Google? Their conversation search for Android is a wonder, if you like that sort of thing. And it would seem that most of us do! The ability to search using natural language and conversation is big news, and the most recent Google Conversation Search update was added for Android recently. We thought this would be a good time to mention the main features of this conversational Google search facility. With Christmas around the corner, many people will be treating loved ones to a new Android phone, and part of the experience will be getting to know Google. Google announced the update, mentioning the addition of new features, updating of cards and traffic incidents to name a couple. But the really exciting update is that it now has the ability to hold a real conversation with us. Think Siri, except in our opinion, its better! Continue reading
Do you have a blog? For many companies, it is an excellent way of sharing news, advice and professional tips. Giving your clientele a way to learn, or pick up valuable advice. It will help you build your brand, reputation as a professional, and it will help to build your readership. Blog followers turn in to customers. Here are some quick tips to help you keep your blog followers engaged and interested. Continue reading
How often do you change your website content? If your website has not been updated or changed since the day it was built, you need to seriously dedicate some time to it, today! As far as the Google bots are concerned, they are looking for websites with regular activity, clear and regular indications of two way communication, and natural traffic flows. If you are not updating your site and constantly attracting people to it, the bots will not pay as much attention to it and your rankings will not go up. There is no point having a beautiful website, if no one is visiting it. And why would your customers visit your website if you do not give it the daily and weekly attention it deserves? A company website is a reflection of that company’s brand, objectives and ethos. It should be a true reflection of the dynamic, hardworking nature of the business, not a static, dusty old virtual brochure. Continue reading
